Assiniboine from the Niblet

Mount Assiniboine is a pyramidal peak mountain located on the Great Divide, on the British Columbia/Alberta border in Canada.

At 3,618 m (11,870 ft), it is the highest peak in the Southern Continental Ranges of the Canadian Rockies. Mt. Assiniboine rises nearly 1,525 m (5,003 ft) above Lake Magog. Because of its resemblance to the Matterhorn in the Alps, it is nicknamed the "Matterhorn of the Rockies". (source: Wikipedia)

Photo tips: Wider lens will help to capture the whole scenery, including several lakes, surrounding forests and some foreground rocks.

Early Autumn (starting September) is a great time to visit this location due to golden larches. You can be welcomed by some early snow though.

Getting there: There's either Assiniboine Lodge or Lake Magog Campground nearby. Some people fly in by a helicopter, but it's also possible to come by several backpacking trails. The shortest is roughly a 30 km hike from Mount Shark parking, passing a beautiful Marvel lake on the way.

Pained sky over Mount Assiniboine. This place is truly a gem of Canadian Rockies. To get there you need to hike approximately 60km roundtrip.
